Why is it when you have a hard workout planned, something...or shall I say somedog....gets in the way. We had a terrible wind storm last night. Very loud! I was sleeping fine until Cooper,(he was Brent's dog last night) started whining for an hour. I think he thought he was missing something outside. I'm sure he figured that the noise was being made by someone. Long story short...Brent lets him out and can't get him to come back inside for what feels like 15 min. Maybe it was. Then neither of us can get back to sleep. Hence....5AM workout goes out the window! I hit that alarm like 5 times and don't really remember it.
So I'm home from work early and will have to adjust my training to a indoor bike ride on the trainer. Thanks to a new Spinerval DVD I just got, it shouldn't be too painfully boring. So, stupid me forgot to change my basal rate for the ride. I'm now ingesting carbs to compensate for that. I hate eating when I shouldn't have to......like when I'm dumb enough to forget to lower basal rates. Now II'm going to have to check sugars more often during. I suppose that's easy to do indoors...so I shouldn't complain....but .......that darn dog!!!

I Love Minimed
I love Minimed....the company that makes my pump. I'm hoping good karma comes my way. Thanks to my super awesome doctor! He laid down some ground work with the Minimed rep. in the area, who's laying ground work in California with the powers that be....let's just say if it all comes through, I'll be suited up with new technology AND then some. So, I'll keep saying it....I love Minimed, I love Minimed, I love Minimed, I love Minimed, I love Minimed, I love Minimed!!!

I'm Not Obsessed!
No really I'm not!
Ok...I am, but not with triathlon.(Others may say different on that!) I'm obsessed with numbers. Everything related to diabetes deals with numbers. Meter readings, carb counting, insulin dosing....and of course lets not forget that good ol' HbA1C test. That one really stinks. I hate it! Not the actually blood draw to get it, but the number that is the result. For those of you non-diabetics, this is a test that averages your blood sugars over 3 months...then attaches a percentage to it. I've been as low as 5%..which is great...and as high as 12 when I was just diagnosed. I'm now hovering in the 7's. Mind you this is not a bad number at all...but forever the prefectionist...I want it lower! Now.....I like to blame this number on the disappearance of the Dexcom. (I had to quit using it because the sensors are so damn expensive.) That was, and is a saving grace for the bg's. I guess it just kept me "honest" on my day to day control. BUT....also gave me more numbers to obsess about. In a way I like not using it for that reason, and that reason only. It gives me a little holiday I guess.
So while at the doc this week I got ALL my blood work done....more numbers. But wait...there is a light at the end of this tunnel! I couldn't ask for better cholesterol numbers. Let's just say that the lab guy giving my results to me on the phone couldn't believe it...."I've never seen values like these! What are you doing??" A few details later and I've forgotten about the A1C.
It's come to this....if there was any question why I do the things I do...obsess about the things I obsess about...the answer would be all the benefits I get from it! In more ways then one!

I'm Committed...or Should That Be Committable??
Oh boy...I did it now. I went and signed up for a half Ironman. See what turning 40 can do to you. The craziest things come out of not wanting to age. Hopefully this will be my only nutty thing I will do in 2008...but who knows....a century ride is sounding cool too!
Training is going to be tough, but I'm looking forward to the challenge. Right now it's a lot of base training....low heart rates and long durations. I'm also getting very focused again on my eating. I have fallen off the wagon for a bit with that...stress eating I suppose...but now I'm back on the wagon and hopeful that it will help me lose that extra 10 I've put on. I wish someone would just tell me..."Nancy, put down the bread". I just love the carbs!
I just had one of my longest swims this morning. It was about 3500 meters...or 2 miles. My arms feel like Jello, and my skin stinks of chlorine...and will stink for the rest of the day as Brent has been so nice to point out. Blood sugars were great! Even with being in the pool for 1:15. It started at 96 and ended at 117. I think my eating habits are helping with this.
Yesterday was a great 1:15 run in the 60 degree weather. How's that for global warming?! I mean how crazy it that for a Michigan January? Unreal! Blood sugars were not so great. Started at 130ish and ended at 202. Not sure how that happened...it was a very aerobic run...no high heart rates.
My life is finally settling down some and the stress is slowing melting away....this should make for a good 2008!!
